How Google Data Backup came about?
I use Google for both my calendars and contacts and they are both synchronized automatically between all of my devices. Although this is ideal, it presents a major problem if some of the information is changed or deleted, (accidentally or intentionally, maliciously by someone else) and you need to retrieve that lost information. One day I discovered a missing contact entry and a few phone numbers that were wrong. When this happened to me, I thought "I Wish I Could have my calendars and contacts backed up completely when I do my periodic backups so that I have a record of what the data was at any point in time in case something happens to it. I also added in backup of Contact Photos.
